Downstream of the Donau, directly neighboring Wachau, lies the medieval city of Krems, as well as Krems Valley, the Winegrowing region of the same name.
The starting point for wonderful wines is similar to that of Wachau. And yet at this point on the Donau it is joined by soil has a pronounced affinity for wine, namely loess.

This “yellow soil” which has been deposited, since the ice age, for over thousands of years, is the ideal starting point for especially fruity, quintessential Veltliners. Both banks of the Donau have Loess soil that is meters deep.
